Born from the synergy of architecture and artistry, Dyad is a marble mosaic collection created in collaboration between AKDO and the acclaimed architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). The collection reflects a shared pursuit of balance, distilling centuries of design heritage into a modern language of clean lines, symmetry, and quiet sophistication.

A Dialogue of Heritage and Modernity

Dyad reinterprets traditional Eastern motifs through a contemporary lens. The collection features subtle tonal palettes and precise geometries, allowing the mosaics to feel at once timeless and modern. Crafted from AKDO’s most beloved marbles—French Vanilla, Odeon Beige, Dark Olive, Mystic Silver, Tulip Black, and Dolomite, each mosaic highlights the natural character of stone while celebrating craftsmanship and restraint.

As Ece Calguner Erzan, Principal at SOM, explains:

“Our design for the new Dyad collection for AKDO has its roots in three themes: Resonance, Harmony and Endurance. The new collection is based in a global outlook and is inspired by a diverse and multi-faceted cultural expression. With subtle references to nature and a biophilic outlook, it speaks to a sense of balance and consonance. And with an enduring approach to design and an emphasis on lasting craftsmanship, the line reflects our emphasis on timelessness and quality.”

This grounding in balance and resonance makes Dyad not just a surface material, but a design statement.

 Patterns That Speak in Harmony

The Dyad collection includes six mosaics across two distinct patterns: Imala and Pavo. Each is offered in three unique colorways, allowing designers to explore harmony, contrast, or material richness. Imala emphasizes refined geometry, evoking calm through order and repetition, while Pavo plays with symmetry and dimensionality, offering a more dynamic take on traditional mosaic structures.

Together, these patterns bring flexibility to interiors—ideal for both residential and commercial spaces.

Crafted for Depth and Dimension

Dyad’s dual honed and brushed finishes introduce delicate texture and tonal variation, enhancing the dimensionality of each pattern. The tactile surface engages both sight and touch, transforming mosaics from decorative elements into architectural statements that enrich any space.

Timeless by Design

Minimal yet expressive, Dyad is designed to enhance rather than overpower. Its versatile forms and serene materiality allow it to serve as both a quiet backdrop and a focal point within bold architectural compositions. This versatility makes it an invaluable tool for designers seeking timeless solutions that blend modern clarity with natural beauty.

With its architectural roots and enduring craftsmanship, Dyad embodies SOM’s design character — simplicity, structure, and timeless quality — while upholding AKDO’s legacy in natural stone innovation.
