Laundry rooms are a completely functional space, but smart designers know they can take some of the drudgery out of cleaning and folding by creating bold spaces that make spending time in the room a joy. AKDO Dealer Karen Berkemeyer Home was recently tasked with such a project by Mar Jennings, a local real estate agent and TV host.
The award-winning design team at KBH was tasked with completely refreshing the look of the room, while utilizing existing traditional white cabinetry to keep the budget under control. Challenged with incorporating liveliness without sacrificing functionality, they turned to AKDO’s Arcadia line.
Utilizing porcelain tile was a must, as it would give the floor protection against damage from any detergents or bleach used in the battle against dirty clothing. Compared to more common rectangles or squares most commonly found in porcelain, the chevron shape of the Grain tile created unique graphic interest, while the black and white checkerboard of Beech and Ebony colorways added a bold pop of personality. The end result is a space that is perfectly transitional, blending traditional cabinetry with trendy flooring to create an aesthetic perfectly suited to the tastes of buyers in Greenfield Hill, a historic neighborhood north of downtown Fairfield.
